Update on the Stanford GSB Financial Aid Initiative
Assistant Dean Kirsten Moss writes to the Stanford GSB community with a progress update on the Financial Aid Initiative.
Over the last six weeks we have taken several important steps to explore how we can improve the MBA financial aid process. I am tremendously grateful for those who have helped facilitate this effort, particularly the student leaders who have designed and guided much of this discovery.
In February, the Student Association conducted several focus groups to learn about our students’ experience with financial aid at Stanford GSB. In March, many of these focus group participants attended a co-design workshop where they prototyped new financial aid models. We will be using these prototypes as the building blocks for the design of a new financial aid process. Throughout these sessions, I have been inspired by our students’ commitment to making our institution stronger and by their bold visions of how to enhance our financial aid offering.
In April, we will be hosting focus groups with alumni to hear their perspectives on how financial aid can be used to best support Stanford GSB’s mission. In addition, we have begun meeting with faculty members from each of our core academic areas.
We recently established an Advisory Group, composed of faculty, staff, and alumni, to provide counsel to our senior leadership. Members of this group, who bring significant finance, marketing, economics, and financial aid expertise, will have the opportunity to reflect on the feedback we have collected and discuss our future direction.
Lastly, I am pleased to announce that we hired Christi Opitz as our Financial Aid Project Manager. Formerly an investment consultant at Cambridge Associates and a member of the finance department at HP, Christi will be fully focused on supporting this initiative in the coming months.
I will continue to hold office hours every Friday from 4:00 to 5:00pm this spring for students. Email me know if you would like to make an appointment.
I appreciate your continued support and look forward to providing regular updates throughout the next six months.
