Matías has over 11 years of experience in the banking industry, working at Bank Boston and Itaú Unibanco. He has led retail banking teams across areas such as operations, customer service, sales, and strategy. Before coming to Stanford, he was Itaú Unibanco’s manager of small and medium enterprises, a segment that represents 30 percent of total retail line revenue. He launched and supported new products for the segment and was the project manager of initiatives such as automating and digitizing the credit analysis workflow. Matías thinks the key to improving service and the customer experience in the financial products area is collaboration between the financial technology industry and banks. To create a bridge between these two groups, he proposed and organized Uruguay’s first fintech hackathon.
