Scaling for Excellence with Professor Huggy Rao
Knight Management Center, Oberndorf

A live session with Professor Huggy Rao illuminating the course concepts.

The success of every venture depends on scaling: on sustaining and enhancing its effectiveness as it adds more employees, customers, and locations. The problem, however, is that scaling comes with inherent risk. Even the best founders and teams face setbacks, make mistakes, and must muddle through stretches of confusion and uncertainty.

12:10pm - 1:20pm

LOW keynotes 2018: Inspiring Ideas to Change Lives, Organizations and the World
Knight Management Center, CEMEX Auditorium

Most GSB students have ideas they believe would make a positive difference in the world. Students are challenged to share such ideas and to enroll others in their vision through the LOWkeynotes program. LOWkeynotes provides an opportunity for students to develop and practice a 9-minute ‘keynote-style’ presentation about an idea they think could change lives, organizations and the world (L.O.W.). Students have the chance to grapple with some of the challenges that leaders face as communicators, as well as what it takes to go from being a good presenter to an effective leader. Of the select group of 30 students chosen to participate in LOWkeynotes, four will be selected to present to an audience of students, alumni and the public. Don’t miss the chance to be inspired by these students’ vision and passion.

4:00pm - 5:00pm

Guest Speaker Jia Jiang: Rejection Proof
Knight Management Center, CEMEX Auditorium
*This event is hosted by Stanford GSB Alumni Career Services.

Jia Jiang is the owner of Rejection Therapy, a website that provides inspiration, knowledge and products for people to overcome their fear of rejection. He is also the CEO of Wuju Learning, a company that teaches people and trains organizations to become fearless through rejection training. In 2015, he authored a bestselling book, Rejection Proof: How I Beat Fear and Became Invincible Through 100 Days of Rejection.
Several years after Jiang began his career in the corporate world, he took a life-altering risk and stepped into the unknown world of entrepreneurship. His result was everyone’s biggest fear: rejection. This was the catalyst that set Jiang on the path to his true calling.

To conquer the fear of rejection, Jiang embarked on a personal quest and started a blog, 100 Days of Rejection Therapy. His journey revealed a world that was hidden in plain sight — a world where people are much kinder than we imagine. He discovered that rejection can be much less painful than we believe and that the fear of rejection is much more destructive than we know.

Jiang grew up in Beijing, China and migrated to the United States at age 16. He holds a Bachelor of Computer Science from Brigham Young University and a Master of Business Administration from Duke University. For more information about Jia Jiang, click here
