File Types

There are three file types you can add to your content.

You should use the Add media feature in the WYSIWYG editor to upload or search for files. Be sure to assign a Section to files you upload. Uploaded image and document files must be less than 256 MB.

Images

  • The allowed file types are jpg, jpeg, gif, and png.
  • If you obtain photos from sources other than Stanford GSB you must be sure to secure rights for use on our website. Contact Marketing for assistance.
  • Graphics and photos should be edited using an application such as Photoshop. Do NOT resize photos by dragging on the corners of the image. If you need assistance editing an image file, submit a Help Desk ticket.
  • File names should be in lower case, no spaces or punctuation, short, and relevant. Hyphens and underscores are acceptable but do not overuse.
  • Image sizes vary, depending on the content type or FPP you select:
    - Diptych: left image: 600 x 440; right image/video: 540 x 300
    - Faculty Profile: 270 x 270
    - House Ads: 270 x 158
    - Image CTA: homepage: 566 x 396; main content: 570 x 334
    - PhD Job Market Candidate: 270 x 270
    - Slideshow: homepage: 524 x 261; double-wide column: 627 x 367
    - Spotlight: 212 x 124
    - WITL: 270 x 270

Documents

  • Allowed file types: txt, doc, docx, xls, xlsx, pdf, ppt, pptx, pps, odt, ods, odp, and zip.
  • When you insert a document file in your content the file type icon is applied automatically.
  • Make sure that file names clearly denote their content. Names should be in lower case, no spaces or punctuation, short, and relevant. Hyphens and underscores are acceptable but do not overuse.

Videos

  • Videos are easily added to your content using the Add media icon and entering the video URL.
  • Videos from YouTube or Vimeo are compatible.
