View From The Top is the dean’s premier speaker series where students interview well-respected leaders from around the world who share insights on effective leadership, their personal core values, and lessons learned throughout their career.

Speaker

Roelof Botha is the Managing Partner of Sequoia. He is in charge of Sequoia’s U.S. and European operations and focuses on internet, services and software investments.

He backed database program MongoDB (IPO 2017), which has a market capitalization of $17.6 billion as of June 2024. Other bets include Eventbrite (IPO 2018), gaming engine Unity (IPO 2020), Block (IPO 2015), 23andMe (IPO 2021) and Bird (IPO 2021).

In 2023 more than 60 percent of Sequoia’s investments were in artificial intelligence and machine learning companies. Roelof led seed-stage bets in AI mentoring app Meeno and AI chief of staff Mindy.

Previously, Botha served as PayPal’s CFO leading the company through its IPO in early 2002, and later through its acquisition by eBay.
