The evolution of conceptualizations of substantive and formal aspects of the strategic process in large, complex organizations, based on the methodology of grounded theorizing, is summarized. Linkages with previous findings and major paradigms are elucidated. Grounded theorizing is suggested to be a viable methodology for the field of strategic management.
