This paper argues that despite the considerable number of published studies it is impossible to draw generalizable findings about the reliability and validity of conjoint analysis. To prevent this from happening in the future, this paper identifies the main sources of confusion and suggests theoretical frameworks, terminologies and procedures to overcome them.
