LCY Chemical Corp.

Bowei Lee is CEO and chairman of the multibillion-dollar LCY Group and is a leading chemical executive in the Asia Pacific region. Under his leadership, the group has grown more than 25 times over the past 18 years and established multinational operations through organic growth, joint ventures, and acquisitions.

As a founding member and chairman of the Taiwan Responsible Care Association, Mr. Lee is active in promoting sustainable development. He also serves as managing director of the Petrochemical Industry Association of Taiwan and advisor to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Environmental Protection Administration of Taiwan. As a result, Mr. Lee was recognized as an outstanding leader in the Taiwan Chemical Industry Association  in  2007.

Mr. Lee is active outside his own industry. He is a founding director of the standing committee of the Society of Entrepreneurs and Ecology, one of the few NGOs founded by entrepreneurs in China, which helps to champion the antidesertification efforts of Northern Asia. He is active in promoting entrepreneurship, at various times chairing MIT Enterprise Forum of Taiwan and serving on the board of the Monte Jade Association. He is on the board of Lung Yingtai Cultural Foundation, which is dedicated to educating young intellectuals of Taiwan, and was recently appointed to the advisory board of AEA Asia, a private-equity firm. In addition, he has been the driving force in bringing to Taiwan the design thinking methodology championed by the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school) at Stanford.

Mr. Lee was born in Taiwan and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in chemical engineering from MIT and his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He was an American Institute of Chemists Scholar at MIT and a member of Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Xi. After a brief but productive stint at Chevron Research in the San Francisco Bay Area, he returned to Taiwan to work for Lee Chang Yung Industry Corp (LCYIC) in 1982.

Mr. Lee is married to Christine (Sai-Fin) Young, a graduate of UC Berkeley. They live in Taipei with their three grown children: one son (Stanford BA/BS ’09, MS ’11) and two daughters (expected Stanford ’14 and ’15).
