May, 2001
Matt Glickman, BabyCenter
Douglas Kirk, Douglas Kirk Consulting
Michelle Stecklein, Thomson Clive VC
Peter Kelley, Pacific Pulmonary Services
Professor Irv Grousbeck (Moderator)
This panel attempts to move beyond the platitudes of the importance of finding someone with "the right chemistry," and provides rich advice on what makes for an effective partnership in a start-up or search fund situation. Doug Kirk, an organizational consultant and executive coach, provides a valuable laundry list of issues to talk through with your co-founder before taking the plunge. The panel also includes Matt Glickman and Peter Kelly, both GBS alums and entrepreneurs, who speak about how they built and dissolved founding partnerships effectively, as well as a VC's perspective from Michelle Stecklein. The discussion includes coverage of topics such as building a culture of intellectual honesty, dealing with the challenges of growth, and finding the "red flags" in a relationship.
