Student Leadership Opportunities
Arbuckle Leadership Fellows
A two-quarter experiential class for MBA2s on learning to lead leaders through coaching and mentoring of MBA1s in the context of their squads and individually.
Leadership Perspectives (OB363)
Leadership Perspectives is a 4-unit elective, which explores the principles and practices by which leaders institutionalize particular values within the organizations they lead. Using a mix of speakers, lecture, and small group discussion, the class provides a forum for students to learn directly from experienced leaders and to think introspectively about their own personal values, leadership styles, and long-term aspirations. The student leaders for the course are responsible for identifying and recruiting speakers, serving as class liaisons, and facilitating discussions.
LOWkeynotes
LOWkeynotes provides an opportunity for students to practice sharing ideas that motivate and inspire others to positive action. An important quality of a leader is the ability to influence others through innovative and engaging communication. Participating students will work with each other, coaches, alumni and faculty to develop and practice a high-level presentation. Applications will go out in autumn quarter. The program takes place in winter quarter with a more public presentation in the spring for a smaller group of students.
Personal Side of Leadership Dinner Series
The Personal Side of Leadership Dinner Series provides students with a forum to explore how to lead a life that is both internally and externally satisfying. Leaders with diverse perspectives are invited to dinner, hosted in students’ homes, to serve as "windows," sharing how they came to hold their core values, and how they have used those values to guide choices in their professional and personal life. The format is designed to promote a more personal discussion. Student leaders are responsible for inviting leaders and students to attend, and programmatic logistics.
View From The Top
View From The Top, the Dean’s speaker series, is a student-run program that brings together top business and social sector leaders and GSB students to discuss effective leadership. Speakers discuss their personal core values and lessons learned, along with their strategies for effective leadership and reflections on career and life choices. The View From The Top offers opportunities for students in both their first and second years to set the agenda for the year, coordinate the planning, and execute the events.
