About the Award

This annual award marks the Business School's commitment to underscoring the importance of leadership in business by highlighting the achievements of a senior executive and Stanford Graduate School of Business alumnus/a who has made significant contributions to the corporate world and the community.

The 2012 Excellence in Leadership Award was presented to James A. C. Kennedy, MBA '78, and CEO and President, T. Rowe Price Group, Inc., on April 5, 2012 in New York City.


About James A. C. Kennedy

Jim Kennedy is CEO and president of T. Rowe Price Group, Inc., and a member of its Board of Directors. He chairs the firm’s Management Committee and Management Compensation Committee. Jim served as Director of Equities from 1997 to 2006.  He also served as Director of Equity Research of T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc., from 1987 to 1999 and as an investment analyst from 1978 to 1987. T. Rowe Price is a global investment management organization that manages $489 billion of client money across a broad array of mutual funds, subadvisory services, and separate account management for individual and institutional investors, retirement plans, and financial intermediaries.

Prior to joining T. Rowe Price in 1978, he was employed by General Electric and participated in their financial management training program. Jim earned an A.B. from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Stanford University, Graduate School of Business. He has also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst accreditation.

Jim serves on Stanford University's Graduate School of Business Advisory Council, and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore. Jim is also director emeritus of St. Paul's School for Girls, and served the Maryland Province of the Jesuits.
