Welcome from the Dean

Garth SalonerI am delighted that you are interested in the PhD Program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. The GSB's mission is to achieve leadership—through thought and action—in the world of management. Our PhD Program is central to that mission: it provides rigorous training for an academic career, enabling our graduates to become leaders in management research and education in their respective fields.

At Stanford, the PhD candidate works to develop a solid foundation in a particular area of study relating to management. The Program demands long hours of intense work and a willingness to master the scholarly disciplines, quantitative techniques, and research methods required for comprehensive doctoral preparation. We offer doctoral education in seven fields: Accounting; Economics; Finance; Marketing; Operations, Information, and Technology; Organizational Behavior; and Political Economics.

This Web site is designed to answer questions and address concerns you may have about doctoral study at the GSB, including academic requirements, financial matters, and the broader environment at Stanford. Our doctoral office staff are available to provide additional information and assistance.

Thank you for your interest in the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Sincerely,

Garth Saloner
