By David Dodson
2020 | Case No. E717 | Length 4 pgs.
The 360-degree performance review (“the 360”) is a structured feedback process that leaders can use to encourage employee development and strengthen their organizations. Unfortunately, many companies that use this powerful tool fail to realize its full potential. In this note, GSB Lecturer David Dodson explains why leaders should embrace the 360, describes how they can implement it effectively at their organizations, and offers specific advice on what they can do to earn employees’ support for, and trust in, the process.

Learning Objective

This note is designed to help students understand what constitutes a properly designed and implemented 360-degree performance review process. After reading this note, students should be able to explain best practice for introducing the 360 process to an organization and offer potential solutions to commonly observed pain points.
