By Jeffrey Pfeffer
Case No. OB42V5
Part I: Being An Effective Leader (2005) Laura Esserman, a surgeon and faculty member at the University of California at San Francisco, is engaged in a major effort to change the delivery of breast cancer services and the information systems used to support both research and patient care. Esserman shares what she learned about being an effective leader and successfully driving change. She discusses the importance of getting feedback and says that being passionate, sure of yourself, and right is not enough. Part II: Being A Change Agent (2007) Esserman discusses being a change agent and how a leader can have power without really effecting change. Being passionate is important but persistence and determination are critical. This video is intended to be used with the written case OB42(B) Dr. Laura Esserman (B) and is part of Jeffrey Pfeffer’s Paths to Power Series.
