Benefiting Business and Society

Technology Initiative of Stanford Leadership Institute

New technologies are rapidly transforming how we live and work, and today’s leaders are grappling with both the opportunities and long-term implications of this shift. The Technology Initiative brings together experts across industries and disciplines to explore how innovation is reshaping markets and institutions and create strategies and solutions to drive beneficial change in business and society.

Technology Research

At Stanford, cutting-edge research is the engine behind new ideas that inform, inspire, and shape the decisions that impact our collective future.

Emerging technologies like AI and machine learning are transforming business, organizations, and society. Our research explores how market shaping and incentives drive innovation and the creation of impactful technologies. We examine technology-based solutions from development to adoption, scaling, and governance. By advancing new methods and frameworks, we aim to improve how technologies are developed, tested, and implemented.

Measuring Perceived Slant in Large Language Models Through User Evaluations
Research Project

This study finds that all large language models are left-leaning, even by Democratic respondents, and a simple tweak to system instructions measurably reduces this tilt. The method is readily transferable to any model, topic, or population, giving firms, regulators, and scholars a practical tool for monitoring and mitigating ideological distortion in an algorithmically curated information environment.
