Abstract

Mexican households are charged for their electricity consumption under an increasing block pricing schedule. Prior research has shown that similar pricing schemes are not salient to households in developed countries. The research objective in this proposed randomized control trial is to test how Mexican households alter their consumption patterns following a brief “actionable information” electricity pricing workshop. If the treatment is found to be effective, the research will demonstrate a cheap and practical mechanism for utilities in developing countries to meet energy efficiency objectives while improving household wealth.
