Abstract

The proposed research would examine investments in solar power for two select countries through the lens of an entrepreneur. We ask under what conditions the deployment of solar panels becomes profitable for the entrepreneur in question. In particular, we seek to identify institutional factors at the country level that are most crucial to making such investments profitable. Some of these factors amount to effective barriers and others to specific risks that impede the widespread deployment of solar power. The identification of mechanisms which remove those barriers and reduce specific risks then becomes the natural next step in this line of research. The findings from our analysis therefore ought to be of interest to the investment community, the solar industry as well as policy makers and regulators.
