Test Scores

All applicants must submit a valid GMAT or GRE score.

We strongly encourage you to take the test of your choice at least a few weeks before the application deadline of the round in which you apply to ensure that you can self-report your scores on your application. Score reports may not be available until one to three weeks after your test date. Admissions interviews will not be granted without a valid test score submitted to Stanford.

Further, applicants whose college or university taught some of their undergraduate courses (other than foreign language classes) in a language other than English must take an English language proficiency test unless they subsequently completed a graduate program taught exclusively in English.

Either the Graduate Management Admission Test or the Graduate Record Examination is required for admission. We have no preference for one test over the other.

English Language Proficiency

Stanford GSB accepts the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), the PTE (Pearson Test of English Academic), or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System).

Online Testing

We accept test scores for the official online versions of the GMAT, GRE, TOEFL, and IELTS. We do not accept the online version of the PTE exam at this time. We recognize that online exams are not offered currently in every region or to every population. We will accept your score until its expiration date: online GMAT and GRE test scores are valid for five years from the date you take the test, and online TOEFL and IELTS Indicator scores are valid for two years.
