The Stanford full-time, one-year master’s degree in management is an academically rigorous program that will immerse you in challenging coursework, engaging discussions with faculty and classmates, and engrossing team projects.
As a graduate degree program at Stanford University, the MSx program is intellectually rigorous, so we require either GMAT, GRE, or EA test scores to give us a sense of whether you can demonstrate the academic readiness required for this one-year master’s program. We do not offer any test waivers.
GMAT, GRE, or Executive Assessment
Either the Graduate Management Admission Test (previous version or GMAT Focus Edition, both referred to as “GMAT” henceforth), the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), or the Executive Assessment (EA) is required for admission. You must take the test before submitting the application. We have no preference for one test over the other, although if you are applying to both the MBA and MSx programs, you must submit either the GMAT or GRE. We do not accept Law School Admission Test (LSAT) or Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores in place of the GMAT, GRE, or EA. When applying, you must have a valid GMAT, GRE, or EA score. For the 2025–2026 application, you must have taken the GMAT, GRE, or EA on or after 01 June 2021.
We strongly encourage you to take the test of your choice at least a few weeks before the application deadline. Admissions interviews will not be granted without a valid test score submitted to Stanford.
English Language Proficiency
All courses for the Stanford MSx Program are taught in English; therefore, you must demonstrate English proficiency. You must take an English proficiency test if:
- English was not the primary language of instruction at your undergraduate or graduate institution
- Your undergraduate or graduate institution taught some classes in a language other than English, even if your specific program was taught in English
Stanford GSB accepts the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), the PTE (Pearson Test of English Academic), or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System).
Multiple Test Scores
We do not average test scores. If you have taken any test more than once, report only the scores from one examination that you wish us to consider while reviewing your application. The scores you report must be from the same testing session.
Online Testing
We accept test scores for the official online versions of the GMAT, GRE, EA, TOEFL, and IELTS. We do not accept the online version of the PTE exam at this time. We recognize that online exams are not offered currently in every region or to every population. Scores must be valid up until 01 June of the year you matriculate: GMAT, GRE and EA test scores are valid for five years from the date you take the test, and TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two years.
