From combat zones to Capitol Hill, U.S. Navy Commander Casey Oswald, MBA ’19, has forged a remarkable path defined by strong leadership under extraordinary pressure. A graduate of Georgetown University, he grew up in Bellingham, Washington, in a longtime Navy family that instilled in him an early sense of service, community, and commitment. Since then, Casey’s career has taken him from serving as second-in-command of SEAL teams in San Diego to representing Navy SEALs in Washington, D.C. He now performs a critical role as the force’s primary liaison to Congress, helping to shape national special operations policy and funding with his usual clarity, integrity, and vision.

Fellow GSB alumnus Will Miller, MA/MBA ’19, has witnessed firsthand the unique qualities that set Casey apart. “What distinguishes Casey isn’t just his rank or accomplishments, but the character and humility with which he leads,” Will observes. “He navigates complex, high-stakes environments with remarkable discipline, emotional intelligence, and an unwavering sense of purpose.” Will adds that Casey has honed a reputation for building bridges — between military and civilian worlds, between tactical realities and strategic priorities, and between individuals and institutions.

Casey’s leadership style was apparent even during his time at the GSB. There, he led the Catholic Student Association, creating space for reflection and community within the intensity of the MBA program. He also contributed locally, helping to establish the Cristo Rey San Diego High School for young people with limited economic means. “Personally, Casey has inspired me through his unwavering example,” notes Will. “Casey is not just a remarkable alumnus — he is a living expression of the GSB’s call to lead with heart, to act with purpose, and to drive meaningful change across every domain he touches.” That blend of professional skill and personal integrity continues to shape Casey’s work today as he represents the interests of Navy SEAL teams in Washington.
