Raised in Brazil and trained in business at São Paulo’s top-ranked FGV EAESP, Enrico Carbone built a two-decade career in global investment banking before turning to early-stage investing and philanthropy. He rose to partner and managing director at BR Partners, the largest independent investment bank in Latin America, and held leadership positions at Credit Suisse, Merrill Lynch, and Santander. He later became a founding general partner of IKJ Capital, which invests in early-stage healthcare technology companies addressing big challenges like mental health and chronic conditions. He’s also a general partner at Reaction and The Next Company, backing health, technology, environmental, and retail ventures across the Americas.
In addition to investing, Enrico is deeply committed to creating lasting impact through social good. He serves on the board of Health in Harmony, an NGO that works with rainforest communities in the Amazon, Andes, Congo Basin, and Indonesia to reverse global deforestation and boost planetary health. At Reaction, he helps lead the W250 Venture Fund, which invests in innovative entrepreneurs with world-changing ambitions from Stanford and beyond. Launched in 2019 by a group of SEP classmates (and named for the Stanford classroom where the idea for Reaction originated), the fund unites alumni capital and expertise to back early-stage ventures and help the organization meet its goal of improving a billion lives.
Enrico’s influence extends far across the GSB alumni community, where he’s recognized as a mentor and connector. “As a founding general partner of the Reaction fund initiated by SEP, he has driven investment in Stanford-related projects and helped SEP classmates navigate their first VC investment or startup,” explains Deirdre Quarnstrom, SEP ’18. “He’s also a respected alumni speaker for GSB events and reunions.” For Deirdre and others, Enrico’s networking skills have opened doors and accelerated professional growth. “Enrico has introduced me to dozens of leaders in the education and gaming fields, expanding my network and awareness of innovation globally,” she says. “His work and his generosity in contributing to the alumni community personify the GSB mission.”
