Clay is a military officer, lawyer, and public servant who has dedicated his career to building bridges with others. At Stanford, Clay is focusing on leadership, business, and technology to make a positive difference in people’s lives. Clay continues to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and is currently assigned to the commandant’s advisory group. Prior to this position, Clay held various leadership and executive roles at the state and national level as director for strategic planning at the White House National Security Council, deputy assistant secretary for international and world language education at the U.S. Department of Education, and candidate for governor of Rhode Island. Clay has traveled to approximately 100 countries and studied Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, and French.
