Stanford Alumni Association
Organization
The mission of the Stanford Alumni Association (SAA) is to reach, serve and engage all Stanford alumni and students; to foster a lifelong intellectual and emotional connection between the University and its graduates; and to provide the University with goodwill and support. SAA strives to build connections to ensure that all students and alumni feel welcome and that they belong to the Stanford community, showcasing the positive social impact that can be achieved together. SAA initiatives extend beyond strengthening ties among its members; they’re about fostering a genuine sense of belonging within the broader Stanford community. It empowers alumni and students to make a positive difference in the world, embodying the values that Stanford instills in all alums.
Issue
How can SAA develop and expand its sponsorship strategy, specifically identifying data-driven sponsorship packages to generate revenue?
Situation
Stanford University typically covers about half of SAA’s operating costs, with the remaining costs generated from revenue programs, including Stanford Travel/Study, Stanford Sierra Camp, rentals of the Alumni Center, and partnerships with organizations such as the Stanford Federal Credit Union. After decades of financial stability, the COVID crisis and recent University funding reductions (driven by reduced government research funding) require that SAA rethink and expand its Earned Income opportunities, specifically the partnership strategy.
Project
By collaborating with ACT, SAA wants to develop the overall sponsorship strategy and the foundational elements for executing the sponsorship strategy in a consistent manner, supported by data.
Key project deliverables include:
- An overall Sponsorship strategy, with the prioritization of high-potential opportunities
- A partnership assessment criteria to filter out opportunities inconsistent with the Stanford brand
- A data-driven rate card for sponsorship opportunities
- A consistent methodology for valuing programs & events
- A set of benchmarks and methodologies that can serve to reinforce sponsorship pricing strategies
