Nixon, Inc.
2009
| Case No.
E333
The case follows Andy Laats, a recent graduate from the Stanford GSB, and his business partner Chad DiNenna as they launch and grow an action sports watch company, Nixon, Inc. It covers their inspiration for the business idea and the process they went through identifying and signing angel investors. The case then highlights some of the complexities involved in managing a new and growing business. Specifically, Laats is concerned about DiNenna’s communication skills, and needs to confront his partner about their working relationship. Laats is faced with a difficult decision when it comes time to hire a Controller at the company. He is deciding between two candidates, one slightly more qualified but significantly more expensive. Finally, the case concludes with the partners considering two different acquisition offers for their company.
