StorMedia , Inc. (A)
1996
| Case No.
E30A
This case describes the story of StorMedia, from its acquisition by Bill Almon to its going public only a short while later. The first part of the case describes the acquisition of the company and the readers are asked to evaluate Almon’s execution of the acquisition. The majority of the case concerns the process of going public, which StorMedia undertook less than a year after its acquisition. The relationship with the bankers and lawyers are described. Problems occur at the last minute as the lead investment bank withdraws from the offering the day before the filing is supposed to occur. Almon faces a crisis that he needs to deal with immediately.
