Red Bull and the New York MetroStars

By George Foster, David Hoyt
2007 | Case No. SPM36
In 2006, Red Bull considered purchasing the New York MetroStars of Major League Soccer (MLS). Red Bull already owned one soccer team, ‘Red Bull Salzburg’ located in the company’s headquarters city. The case describes professional soccer in the United States, with emphasis on MLS. The case can be used together with SPM-33: Futbol Club Barcelona: Globalization Opportunities, in which another organization (in this case a top European soccer team) considered acquisition of an MLS team). It can also be used with SPM-35: Red Bull and Auto Racing: Sponsor or Own a Formula One Team?, which includes information about Red Bull and its activities in sports.
