Stanford Big-Data Initiative in International Macro-Finance

Large-scale data-driven research has revolutionized many fields in the social sciences. Each year, this initiative brings together 30 PhD students from schools worldwide for a three-day workshop on big data research in international macro-finance.

Large-scale empirical work often presents specific challenges for PhD students entering the field. This initiative seeks to lower these barriers to entry by sharing knowledge, codes, and data as a starter kit for new researchers.

The second annual meeting took place Aug 25–27, 2021. Due to the Covid-19 crisis, the meeting was virtual. The meeting did not occur in 2022 but will resume in 2023. All materials from all years of the initiative, including the lecture videos, are available on this website.

The initiative is made possible by the generous support of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and Stanford Graduate School of Business.
