Dave was a test pilot and flight surgeon for the U.S. Air Force. He led operational flight testing of new weapons, tactics, and aircraft upgrades for bomber platforms. Uniting the perspectives of pilot and physician, he designed systems that optimized combat effectiveness, survivability, and usability for bomber aircraft. In his last assignment, Dave developed an analysis for modernizing B-52 ejection seats that will improve aircrew survivability while reducing operation and sustainment costs. In his 12-year military career, he served as an instructor pilot certified in conventional and nuclear bomber operations as well as an aeromedical physician caring for pilots and their families. Now in the private sector, Dave serves as a consultant on future systems for a defense contractor. He recently became director of human systems integration for Parallax Enterprises, which brings aviation safety principles to the operating room to improve patient outcomes. Dave is a 2017 Tillman Scholar (awarded by the Pat Tillman Foundation).
