Stephen Compagni Portis, MBA ’84

Stephen Portis is an accomplished CEO with more than 30 years of experience launching and growing companies in the cleantech, real estate, and finance sectors. He brings expertise in all facets of corporate development including strategy, raising equity and debt capital, team building, product development, financial analysis, sales, marketing, and business development.

Portis possesses exceptional negotiation skills and has broad-based transactional experience including buyouts, mergers, and the cultivation of strategic partnerships and joint ventures.

He also has legal acumen with expertise in crafting complex contracts and partnership agreements and has raised more than $500 million in capital from venture capital and private equity investors.

Portis coinvented PACE, an internationally acclaimed financing mechanism for clean energy finance and worked to have legislation passed in 23 states to facilitate the emergence of PACE programs nationwide.

Portis earned a bachelor of science from Cornell University and a master of business administration from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
